The need to build things has indeed been the most perplexing dlemma in my life, both a curse and a delight at times, but albeit necessary. The most enjoyable moments stemmed from the thought process of how to actually create the piece. Once I made a decision to create something, I had to figure out how to do it. The majority of my artistic skills were self taught. In other words, I learned to do by doing. I used an array of materials including: hair, metal, wood, clay, cloth, acrylic, and bronze casting. My work ethic allowed me the energy and patience needed to complete my obligation and finish the piece. I once sought professional help for my dilemma. The final words the professional said to me were, "Aside from all the other things wrong with you, you have to build. So go out and build!"
I couldn't make a living off just my art, so I went into the barbering business, which led to cutting and styling women's hair. I was successful in satisfying many famous people including Barbra Streisand and Doris Duke. I kept my day job of 'doing' hair in order to support my addiction of creating art.
